The Old Bridge ("Stary Most") in Bratislava is a 460 m long bridge built in 1825, the oldest bridge which is still standing over the Danube River in Bratislava. This bridge is a major bottleneck on the Danube River and even though it is strategically located, it still does not fulfil appropriate inland waterways conditions. In order to do so, it is necessary to have the navigational level of the bridge taken to 9.10m (1.9m higher than the current level).
The Danube river where the bridge is situated is declared of international importance by the European Agreement on Main Inland Waterways (AGN). It is equivalent to an inland waterway category VIc.
The action consists of:
• Preparing project documentation for the reconstruction of the Old Bridge, including the necessary technical specifications;
• Preparing documentation for new practices in inland navigation regarding the change of the navigation level;
• Carrying out an environmental impact assessment study according to the European legislation.
